Actuall Baseball Action Begins in Surprise

The Royals held an intra-squad game on Sunday and the big news was Ross Gload and Ryan Shealy hitting home runs. Shealy was held at first base so they team could work on a situational drill, while Gload was allowed to circle the bases after his blast.

At least, that's what they told the two players. I think that manager Trey Hillman just realized Gload wouldn't get too many opportunities to round the bags with a long ball, so he let him go.

One more note from the recap. Apparently, Alberto Callaspo is going to be referred to as Bert, which is an awesome baseball name and portends great things for him as a second baseman this year.

Alberto Callapso had two hits and scored two runs.

"Bert can hit," manager Trey Hillman said. "I think he's one of those guys who can hit just falling out to bed. It's not surprising to see him go up there and go base-hit, base-hit."
